Getting Rid of Rubber Cement on Your Carpet Fibers

Rubber cement can be really helpful in fixing stuff inside your home. It can be a really useful adhesive since it can put things back together such as pieces wooden furniture and other ornaments that you may have in your home. Rubber cement is really great for this purpose but it can lead to some predicaments too at times particularly when you inadvertently get some of it on your carpet.

Getting rubber cement on your carpet is not a good thing since the adhesive will cause the fibers of your carpet to become sticky and clumped together. Aside from this, the appearance of your carpet will also be compromised.

Cleaning up this kind of mess is not going to be easy but you can make it an easier task by taking the correct approach. Here is what you will need to do in order to get rid of the rubber cement on your carpet fibers.

  • Scoop up the rubber cement on your carpet using a dull knife as soon as you have spilled it there. You should take swift action as you can still prevent the problem from becoming worse.
  • Once you have cleared up as much of the rubber cement as you can get some isopropyl rubbing alcohol and pour some on a piece of cotton ball. Then, use the cotton ball in blotting the affected area of the carpet. This will help dissolve the rubber cement and make it easier to remove.
  • The rubber cement though will not entirely be removed with the alcohol alone thus you should use a cleaning solution to completely get rid of it. Use a mixture of one part non-bleach laundry detergent and five parts of warm water. Place this in an empty contained and then move on to the succeeding steps.
  • Pour a couple of teaspoons of the cleaning solution that you have prepared on the rubber cement stain on your carpet. Allow it to soak the rubber cement stain for several minutes before getting a clean white cloth and blotting the area repeatedly until the stain is gone. You will have to do this a few times until you get the desired result but it will all be worth it with your carpet looking clean and back to normal once more.

Removing rubber cement on the carpet may sound like a very tough task but it is actually simple with the steps above. Good luck!
